after members were appointed by their various constituencies.

Middle Atlantic
District Council: Henry Holcomb, president of the Middle Atlantic
District Council, informed the committee that his district had
chosen Randye Gilliam from New York and Vernon Clark of
Philadelphia as the alternate. The committee discussed the two
appointments and noted that committee was structured to have only
one appointment from the district. The committee also noted that
all decisions during the first term of the committee were made by
consensus and no votes were held. Also, the committee noted that
much work needed to be done. The committee agreed that both Randye
Gilliam and Vernon will participate in all meetings and the
committee will continue to make decisions by consensus. In case
there is a vote, and both Randye and Vernon are present, Randy
will have one vote.
Meetings: The
committee agreed to meet by telephone conference once a month and
more often if needed. The first meeting will be held in September.
Other: The
committee agreed that it will use suggestions made at the workshop
on Diversity in the Workplace the previous day at the sector
conference as the basis of its deliberations.
