MINUTES PREPARED
BY MICHAEL D'SOUZA.
The committee
started its meeting on schedule at 1 p.m. Eastern, 10 a.m.
Pacific. The budget was the primary item on the agenda.
Budget 2008-09
The committee
considered the budget as presented by Michael D'Souza. The cost of
the TNG-CWA Human Rights Convention is a substantial portion of
the committee's budget and Scott Stephens suggested ways of
trimming this item by having locals pick up costs of paying for
committee members to attend the conference in Las Vegas and
looking for speakers from Las Vegas. Vernon Clark reported that he
has contacted the University of Nevada, Las Vegas, about speakers.
Randye Gilliam, Yoko Kuramoto-Eidsmoe and Natalie Hill said they
were all delegates to the CWA convention in Vegas and their locals
will pick up the costs of attending the TNG-CWA Human Rights
Convention. The committee agreed that these actions may reduce the
expenditures but decided to leave this portion of the budget as
presented.
Michael informed
the committee that the TNG-CWA pays for subsidies for members to
attend the New Local Officers Seminar and that this item did not
need to be in the budget. The committee agreed to eliminate it.
The committee
then discussed a payment of $1,000 to the Boston Library Project
and considered including this amount if it is matched by the local
and is to be spent on acquiring material for the library. The
committee agreed that Michael would discuss this with Carl first.
The committee
agreed that the face-to-face meeting included in the budget should
be held in conjunction with the meeting of the TNG-CWA Executive
Council in the Fall.
The committee
approved the budget as amended. It is attached below.
UNITY Conference

Michael informed
the committee that he had registered to attend the UNITY
conference on Friday because it was the last day for early
registration. He also said he was not eager to attend the meeting.
Vernon Clark volunteered to attend. The TNG-CWA is also looking
into getting a table at the conference. Michael and Vernon will
coordinate on the registration with Michael canceling his
registration after Vernon registers.
